Let me first preface this review by saying that I am an enormous fan of Marni’s quirky-cool aesthetic and an ardent believer that the brand is too often overlooked by handbag fanatics as a result of some of the brand’s more eccentric pieces. The Italian company is actually a great source for a variety of pieces in your accessories wardrobe, and the ladylike (but still quintessentially Marni) leather goods from Marni Fall 2011 are a perfect display of not only the brand’s versatility, but perhaps more importantly, its functionality.

This collection includes everything from leather clutches with strong modernist hardware that would be well-suited for an evening out to larger, more utilitarian totes made out of the only perforated leather that I’ve ever seen that looks not only genuinely luxurious, but also design-appropriate. Marni does a great job of making smaller, more streamlined bags, which is a talent that dovetails well with the industry’s prevailing accessories trends. The nice thing about these pieces, though, is that they don’t look trendy – Marni keeps its bags just minimal enough to go the distance.

hmmm, love the structured, but can’t get on board with the perforations. for some reason always makes pieces look dated to me…

Ditto…I don’t mind the perforations too much, but they look really dated…..

They’ll probably be up for pre-order toward the end of summer, Net-a-Porter always carries a good selection of Marni!

    Love the black clutch!

Perhaps a shade too minimal for me. I like a little more spunk in my bags.

Always drool over Marni shoes and bags, but never get the guts to spend that much money on them. Sigh. The clutches… the first and second picts remind me of Fendi peekaboo, in a good way

I was returning a fan of MArni’s accessories (handbags and shoes…) but now I’m so sad. I lvoe this show by the point of view of clothes, but I’m so bored by the bags….!

This is one of the rare occasions where I really like the perforated leather. The white handbag with the black handle is stunning.

I like the shape of numbers 4, 5, and 15, but they look old and not in a good way. I wish they would look just a tad more modern. Maybe the leather could have been treated with something other than
Bag number six looks like something my 80 year old grandmother would wear.

Nice, but not Wow. Look a wee bit dated.

I would love it if someone on this site would start a discussion weighing the pros and cons of handbags (drop too short to allow the bag to be carried on the shoulder) vs. shoulder bags/hobos. Some of the handbags pictured here are beautiful, but if you are used to a shoulder bag, is it difficult to move to a handbag that you can’t just sling over your shoulder? I’m tempted to try it but want to know if those devoted to shoulder bags have attempted it and found themselves to be completely unable to adapt to always having to carry the bag in their hands. Thanks for the article and comments.
