3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2013 15

There’s perhaps nothing lovelier in the fashion business than watching a young designer blossom into one of the industry’s great talents. If 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2013 is any indication, that’s exactly what we’ve done with Phillip Lim; I remember when he first started making bags (there were bows involved), and to see him find his footing in luxurious modernism brings me great joy. As do this collection’s bags, natch.

The new-and-notable bag from this collection is the 3.1 Phillip Lim Ryder, which you’ll find in the slideshow below in a spare black leather base with front panels of lush calfhair, fur or snakeskin. It’s a bit of utilitarian luxury, this bag, meant to be thrown across the body when a busy girl heads out into the world. Lim’s always been conscious that his customers are women who need functional solutions as much as they need fashion, and this is his latest attempt to straddle that divide. Indeed, even the flat clutches in this collection have crossbody straps. From an accessories standpoint, it’s easily Lim’s best yet.

I love his work! Been following him for years and so glad that he’s doing well. He’s under-rated compared to A. Wang.

The first one with the puce calfhair is beautiful! Looks like a great size too, not too big not too small, though it’s kind of hard to tell in the picture.
