Dooney and Bourke bags will never live down that ugly duck they had for years! They are such a low-tier company in the world of handbags, who the hell would want to advertise that they own one of these pieces of crap?

I hate ALL logo bags (and clothing, shoes), even the super high-end ones, but that’s just me. Dooney’s plain leather tassel bags are quite nice.

I have a Dooney and Burke All Weather Leather Sachel, and it’s the type of thing that I use when I’m meeting with clients and I want to impress them with my stodgy professionalism. Although I do have to say, I do love the duck tag. It’s lame, but there’s something so cute contained within it’s lameness. It’s like the Haley Joel Osment of handbags.

i think all this negative sentiment is unwarranted. the biggest gripe i can find is that the handles are a bit oblong, but even this adds some interest. In a day and age where everyone and their wife have bags with GG or CD or some other initial slammed allover, its nice to see the designer’s real name. If green isnt your thing, perhaps this thing does suck balls. But for real now, it isnt that bad at all.

Fugly Fugly Fugly. They have taken the brand revitalization thing way too far, going from that unchanging duck logo thick hide style to schizophrenic trend-chasing. Before whether or not you were a fan of their momly, sensible leather goods they had an identity. Now there’s this screaming foolish logo, but it has no meaning, there is no brand identity. The other especially bad pattern was the Murakami ripoff pastel on white background that Lindsay Lohan advertised - just awful!

For all the terrible comments to see about these bags from everyone, one would think that Dooney never sells them. I can tell you that the green is not my choice, but I have one in brown and it is a really great bag. I looked around for a very long time for a bag that was comfortable and light before I put all my stuff in there. This back is great. I bought it in Williamsburg, VA at an outlet, it’s beautiful. Sorry, you all don’t get it. These bags are very nice.

I love all of the Dooney & Bourke line. Can’t say I am fond of the lemon yellow/lime green combination though. I own many Louis Vuitton handbags (yes. all real, no fakes here). I own Guccis, again, real not fake. I recently bought one MCM bag (real) and have received many compliments on it. I do not have any Coach or Dooney monograms of any kind and would dearly love to have at least one of each. I am probably considerably older than most of you and believe me, when people see you walking down the street they are not thinking, ooohhh, look how ugly that purse is. They probably do question authenticity because they are very jealous and hope and pray it is fake and you are as poor as them. Nice thing about this is, you know it’s real and screw them if they don’t realize it. You should always carry a designer bag with pride. It is one of the few things I never go cheap or fake on.

This bags colors are simply too garish. Personally, carrying it I would feel like a billiboard-a free advertisement for the company, a company that actually forced me to pay them to help them sell merchandise. That’s just wrong.

I do own a Dooney and Bourke bag, it is small, and has a very faint barely visible logo, and a lock that states, in a very sophisticated way, unlike the bag above, that it was made my Dooney and Bourke. It has neutral tones and goes with just about anything.

I do not claim to be extremely wealthy, but I do have taste and realize that paying to be a billboard (no matter what logo you’re doing it for, LV,Fendi,Coach) is never a classy move.

Personally, I would definitely prefer a Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Chanel, or Chloe bag, especially since they typically do not make me feel like such a consumer whore.

Whoa! Whatever happened to “live and let live”?

I stumbled across this old discussion only because I began to search the Internet out of curiosity to see if the IT bag collection are suitable for adults in their 30s and beyond, or are marketed primarily to people in their 20s and below. I have a 40-something friend who carries the Dooney & Bourke large heart tassel bag, which is why Dooney & Bourke caught my attention. On my friend the look works well, and I actually find the heart pattern attractive too. She can “get away with it” in my opinion, but as much as I adore those crayon hearts I don’t feel I can take the same liberty even though I am younger than she. As a result, I opted for a rainbow DB monogram with vachetta trim instead of the crayon heart pattern. Normally I don’t care for monograms, but the rainbow DBs go with anything I wish to wear, and the colors add a hint of casual playfulness that the other monogram bags out there lack. And while I certainly agree that the spring green colors on the Dooney & Bourke purse that started this discussion are a bit limiting insofar as what type of outfits they match, who am I to tell anyone what to buy? If anything was lame, it was the blogger who started this flame war by including put-downs of ANY handbag!

In addition I agree with another comment in which it was pointed out that the LVs and other ultra high-end designs are commonly replicated. By contrast, when I see a Dooney & Bourke, I am less likely to assume that it may be a fake, less likely to assume that the owner can’t afford the real thing, etc, etc. As designer handbags go, Dooney & Bourke is somewhat of a “best kept secret” because it is “designer” but not so obscenely priced as to make me doubt whether someone who is carrying one bought the real thing.

As for the Dooney & Bourke duck logo that some here called “lame” or “stodgy”, it’s just a matter of perspective. Disney can and does market a zillion cartoon characters that even adults will wear on watches, shirts, totes, etc. If Disney can take a rodent — which wasn’t a popular choice when Walt Disney proposed it — and make Mickey Mouse into a cute cultural icon, than certainly Dooney & Bourke’s duck logo can’t be singled out! Look at it another way: If you tell people that something is trendy, and tell them often enough, most people will believe it. If I showed you a monogram purse that you had never even seen or heard of in your entire life you would HATE it. But if I sold that bag for 20 years and priced it at $400 or greater, people would eventually begin to fall all over themselves to buy it — not because it is pretty, per se, but because it shows the world that you have money burning holes in your pockets, and to a lot of people that’s what “designer” purchases are all about.

Toward the end this discussion deteriorated into what the guys would call a “pissing contest”. Gals were challenging other gals about how wealthy they actually are, how they could afford this designer or that, etc. From the juvenile tone of *SOME* of the comments, it didn’t sound as if many adults were involved in this discussion. I have no problem with teen posts, but I sure wish rude people on the Internet would get a clue no matter what age they are. Every time you hurl an insult it just makes the Internet feel like a gigantic junior high school where everyone is insecure and trying to prove otherwise.

Isn’t the whole point of buying designer brands and visiting these fashion sites to help us gals make a sophisticated “statement” about who we are? So why ruin the sophisticated or classy clothing and accessories by adopting an attitude or a writing style that sounds and reads as if it were written by a trash-talking seventh grade dropout as opposed to a well-mannered, well educated adult? I came here off a Google link hoping to answer my question about who the IT bags are marketed to, and if adult women, not just teens or college students, are carrying them too. The closest thing I have to an answer is what would seem like a lot of teenage-sounding bickering under the Dooney & Bourke discussions.

This last paragraph is a friendly FYI to those who are coming up in the world: Education, not clothing or accessories, is the ultimate indicator of economic status. If you’re all “look” and no substance, everyone will know it by the way you write and speak (given away not only by poor spelling and grammar, but your manners and “class”). Bottom line? If you want to LOOK sophisticated, buy the latest designer handbag, the designer jeans, etc. If you want to complete the whole package, however, you’ll want to SOUND and act sophisticated too. That means learning how to spell, use grammar correctly, write complete sentences, and to ignore the Internet trolls who are trying to start flame wars with people who nibble the bait in response to nasty, obscene and rude posts. Courtesy IS class: If you don’t have any class, people will see through you no matter how many designer brands are cluttering your closet. Class: It never goes out of style, and it doesn’t cost a dime. Don’t leave home — or post on the Internet — without it.

I own a DB with just the BD logo, I would never want one with the spelled out name as shown on this bag. I do like the style of this particular bag and it now comes in a nice denim color with just the DB logo. My problem with DB is I do not think the fabric bags are worth the price. The All Weather leather is. The fabric bag I own ( a shoulder sac sloutch type) after only 1 year of use ( and I did not use it constantly) has thread wear on all four corners of the bottom where the corners are sown together. DB should put leather corners on these bags. When one pays nearly $200 for a bag this is not what should be expected to happen. I will NEVER buy another DB fabric style bag. I could have paid $40 for a bag at flippin’ Mervyns and had longer wear on the corners.

Diana- I think the “IT” bags can be carried by everyone, no matter their age. I Have a D&B bag with the rainbow colored d&b’s all over it~ I think that bag anyone could wear.. but as far as the IT bags with the hearts..I’m not so sure..I’ve only seen girls in their 20’s wearing them. haha…i am only 16 and i jusst got into designer purses. i have neverr evver had any interest in purses with the sig. logos on them. i have always thought they were hideous, and simply went straight to the patchwork coach and the colorful dooneys, seeign as they are the least expensive brands (part of me even thinks they have the cuter designs!)–i even find some louis distastful. why not skip the nasty and go straight to cute? seriously, if youre planning on spending money on a QUALITY purse, at least make sure it is attractive, i gaurantee the prices vary only slightly.

Everyone has there own taste. Everyone is an individual person. I love Dooney & Bourke and I also like Coach, Gucci..etc. I am not saying I have all these handbags but I do like them and if I could have them I would. I dont think putting down a certain brand is right. Like I said everyone has there own taste. Imagine if we would all like just the same thing. My taste personally: I prefer Dooney & Bourke to the rest…but that’s me. If you like it ok and if you don’t you don’t but don’t talk bad about it because “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”..in other words what is beautiful to me migh not be to you or just the other way around.

WOW! LMFAO @ at the chaos going on in this forum over one simple purse. This is such a shame. I feel sorry for all the girls on here who have nothing better to do than argue back and forth, tit for tat, with strangers that you have never met, and probably will never meet about which designer is better. I don’t like this particular tapestry Dooney, but I like the white multicolor ones, black multicolor ones, black and grey ones, and brown and tan ones. I love Dooney because they have really fun styles. They have something for everyone, young and old. The colorful ones appeal more to the younger crowd, and the plain leather ones are more for older women. Either or, they are all nice and well made.

I own five Dooneys, and I love each and every one of them. But the difference is that I actually bought them myself because I am not a spolied priss like many of the “women” on this forum. I am not rich, I mean, I just graduated from college so I have tons of student loans left to pay off LOL…but why does it matter if someone is rich or not? Having money doesn’t make you better than the next person, and blasting your so-called wealth over the Internet is not cute at all. Especially when you don’t know how to spell correctly. It’s such a shame. No one is jealous of you OR your bags. The bag does not make the woman.

I don’t worry about what other people have to say about what I wear because I wear stuff for ME and not for them. I used to love D&B but after my recent issue with them I will never purchase another. I got a D&B bag a few years back and I did not use it much. The fabric started to fall apart and so I sent it in to be fixed. I paid $235.00 for the bag and all they wanted to give me was $117.50 for the bag which I had to use to purchase a bag at the same price. The bag that I wanted was $195.00 and they refused to let me do that. I tried to talk to the manager and got no response. This is stupid I should be able to trade in for any bag that I want. If it costs less I’m the one out the money not them. Has anyone ever had this issue and if so did you get it resolved?
