Fill In The Blank

Amanda and I have been racking our brains trying to figure out what to write about this past week. The fashion world is in a lull as preparations for fashion week are finalizing and stores are starting to shed their spring collections and bring in anticipation of fall and winter, which means that there’s little relevant stock to be discussed. That is why this week is perfect for seven days of giveaways and a little fill in the blank fun.

Animal prints will never go out of style. Some seasons a different print reigns supreme, but the idea as a whole is here to stay. Newbark not only understood this but also knew that many of us get stuck on which print to buy, which is perhaps why it designed the Newbark Animal-print Calf Hair Pouch with half leopard print and half snake print.

Structure can be a great design element when implemented properly. In fact, some of the most timeless bags feature a bit of structure to their design, like the Hermes Birkin and Chanel Classic Flap. Yet there are times when a structured bag simply does not work, and this may be one of those times.

The Jimmy Choo Catherine Leopard-Print Satchel uses soft yet structured leather which is offset by leopard-print calf hair. There are double shoulder straps which appear long enough to fling over your shoulder, but because of the bags structure it may sit awkwardly against your body if carried that way. Many pockets make this bag functional, but all the functionality in the world does not help a design that is missing the mark. Oh Jimmy Choo, your shoes have fallen down the rabbit hole as of late, and your bag designs are so hit-or-miss. Buy via Neiman Marcus for $1,795.

Burberry Mini Check Clutch, $795 via Neiman Marcus.

Combining the iconic check pattern with the fashion-forward belt buckle wrapped body, the Burberry Mini Check Clutch is an attention grabber. I like seeing the classic plaid pattern broken up by the leather and the way Burberry implements this gives their design an edgy appearance.

Help out and fill in the blank so we can see what you think of this bag. Buy via Neiman Marcus for $795.

You know how much we love to play fill in the blank with you! I saw this Nancy Gonzalez bag and felt stumped. With a great shape and of course gorgeous exotic skin, it is hard for me to decide what I think about the translucent blue Caiman fuscus crocodile skin.

I immediately started thinking mermaid and have a hard time thinking anything else. I’m interested to hear what you fill in the blank with. Buy via Neiman Marcus for $3,350.

It’s time for another game of Fill in the Blank, ladies! You all know the drill by now: We pick a bag with a strong aesthetic point of view, you tell us exactly what words come to mind when you see it, good or bad. Today’s subject of discussion? The CC Skye Town and Country Satchel. Tell us what you think, and if you like it, you can grab it on sale at Bloomingdale’s for $525. (more…)

Marc Jacobs Snake Clutch, $1095 via NAP

Without looking at the name of this clutch or a close-up image, you might miss that a snake design is separating the raspberry suede and orange leather colorblocking. What makes the snake design stand out even more is the fact that it has a face and is created with actual python, which keeps the design legit while also making me feel a wee bit slimy.

However I must admit that Marc Jacobs is pulling together trends quite nicely here. The only thing I wish for is an optional chain shoulder strap so I could easily throw this bad boy over my shoulder and slither around for a night on the town. Buy via NAP for $1095

It has been a few weeks since we had you partake in a fill in the blank post and this Monday seems to be dragging so it is time for a little fun. Right when I laid my eyes on this bag I knew it would be a perfect post to have you share your opinion. We do not see many Roberto Cavalli handbags on PurseBlog and that is quite all right, since they never seem to be my style.

New to Net-A-Porter, the Roberto Cavalli Doctor Fringed Bag has plenty of design elements going on from gray distressed suede to knotted fringed detail and everything in between. In fact there is so much going on that it is simply too long for me to list. Amanda and I both had the same thought when we first saw this bag: Swamp Thing. Price is $3,785 via NAP.

I’m a noted Balenciaga fangirl and would gladly carry either of the woven, multicolored Balenciaga Papier Cannage Imprime Totes, although the lighter of the two is my favorite. I have a feeling that this is going to be a controversial bag for some of our readers, though, which makes it all the more fun for a rousing game of Fill in the Blank. You guys know how this works by now – have at it in the comments.

Buy through Barneys for $2750 here and here. (more…)

Is fringe still in? Matthew Williamson thinks so. He also thinks sequined and silk is what it is all about hence he threw them all together on this bag.

I am always looking for something funky that stands apart from the rest and this bag surely does that. But does it do so in a fashion-forward way or as a total miss? Start your Tuesday off with some fill in the blank fun. Buy via NAP for $1995.

When I stumbled upon the Roberta di Camerino Caravel Vintage Tartan Bag, I knew it needed a fill in the blank slot on PurseBlog. This oversized doctor frame bag features a velvet tartan plaid buckle design all over the outside. Not often do we see large doctor frame bags let alone velvet bags. The inside is lined with leather, which I am assuming will make this bag rather heavy. Price is high too, buy via Barneys for $3,150.
