Fashion Week Handbags: Bottega Veneta Spring 2013

Bottega Veneta isn’t one of the big, splashy, blockbuster spectacles of Milan Fashion Week to which the Italians are so preternaturally inclined, but that’s one of the things that makes me look forward to it every season all the more. During his tenure at Bottega, Tomas Maier has so expertly crafted the Bottega Veneta woman into someone who can’t be easily hemmed in by a few adjectives, as he mentioned in the run of show for Bottega Veneta Spring 2013. If you enjoy looking at top-flight detail work that’s both exquisitely rendered and surprisingly wearable, it’s very much worth your time to explore the full collection of clothes. Maier and his team are uniformly excellent at what they do.

We’re primarily interested in the handbags, of course, and they were as excellent as you’d expect. Lush exotics trimmed in even more tonal exotics, intrecciato options that finish in a fountain of fringe, a very special tote adorned with Bottega Veneta’s brand icon, the butterfly. The tones were mostly muted, but the finished product had plenty of boldness to go around. Check out the full handbag gallery after the jump.
