Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York: Donna Karan Spring 2012

The more Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York shows I attend, the more easily I can separate the amazing from the merely good, and Donna Karan Spring 2012 was amazing. If I had to choose one word to describe the collection, it would be “tribal.” From the music that filled the space to every detail, we were shown a modern and subdued take on a tribal theme. Of course Donna Karan, who is known for her draping, integrated her defining style throughout the collection, yet we got more color and prints than usual. While Donna’s February show for Fall 2011 was comprised of muted neutrals, this line provided eye-catching patterns that kept true to Donna’s aesthetic while also adding statement pieces.

My gaze was immediately taken to the accessories; the shoes, bags, bangles and necklaces. Prints on the sandals had me yearning to add to my collection while the oversized bracelets and layered necklaces perfectly finished off the looks. While there were not many bags paired with the ensembles, the few that I saw mixed luscious leather with interesting textures in neutral colors. What I can say is that when the collection finished I was in love, and also saw so many looks that I would love to wear – which is a great sign of an amazing show.
