Lele - It is a bit scarier when you are little, because as a little kid it is hard to know if something would be made with a bit of nuts etc (people used almond flour often! Always tricks me). But you get used to it. I have tons of food allergies; wheat, dairy, fish, and nuts. But I have found my way around them. I still eat out and enjoy it. Sometimes I miss 'regular' desserts and bread, but I can find a great substitute! Tell your little girl to hang in there :)

Brock - I have now found some better candy as well! And some vegan chocolate is good. I like dark chocolate too, and they do not use milk in many dark chocolates. But I loved milk chocolate when I was younger (didn't know about the allergy) so it is a different taste.

this might sound weird but i have read your blog for a long time and when i read you are allergic to nuts among other allergies - i was not glad that would be awful - but i was happy to hear you dealt with food allergies and it did not rule your life as i have not read it here before. my little girl is allergic to peanuts and cashews and at first i was devastated so nervous of what it would be like when she was away from me... it helps hearing others manage food allergies... i am sorry as a child you did not get much in the candy department - but it is just food that is not even good for you!

So vegan chocolate isn't an option? I purchase mine at Whole Foods Market (it's their brand) and I absolutely love it! They make the best chocolate chip cookies. As a vegan, my options are limited, but there are some great ways around it! (The chips come in a green bag. If you freeze them, they make an excellent snack!)

I was at a friend's house and having a craving for cookies and they didn't have the typical oreos or chips a hoy...but I grabbed this unopen box and started cramming these "chocolate chip cookies" in my mouth and realized something was VERY VERY wrong. That was my first and ONLY experience with carob right before I threw it in the trash. Vegans are missing out!
