Of the few shows that we’ve seen so far Givenchy Haute Couture felt the most like couture to me. As the line between a normal runway show and a couture show continues to blur and fewer brands present the highest of high fashion as time goes on and the customer base dwindles, I still thoroughly enjoy seeing a full-on, beads-and-feathers-and-funny-hats shindig.

Thankfully, that’s exactly what Givenchy gave us. Modernist lampshade-esque hats topped looks from ballgowns to jumpsuits, rendered in lace, beading, feathers and ruffles and then dipped in pure, unadulterated fabulousness.

The styling was a bit gothic – models wore ultra-pale makeup accented with blood-red lips and eyes so smokey that some of the models looked a bit like they’d taken a punch. The goth look was bolstered by a largely black palette, but there were enough shots of vibrant purple, blue and green that no one would mistake the mood for dour. It was dark but glamorous, and that’s exactly what I prefer in my couture. Or, you know, what I would prefer if I had any couture.

This collection is a bit too dark for my taste. But No 3 (second pic), 6, 7, and 12 are really nice, and still a bit unusual (in a good way). Anyway – only a few people will be able to afford it – lucky them.

I am sure the detail work of the clothes is incredible I wish I could see the clothes up close so I could appreciate the patterns more.

Wish I could have seen this show. Well let’s face it I wish I could have seen any show!
Love the look of this one. Dumb question but do they ever swing a bag over their arm as they glide down the runway?

Depends on the designer – usually not for couture, although the post about Jean Paul Gaultier for tomorrow has a bag in it. Much more common in RTW shows.
