There are a lot of things in life that I don’t understand, but one in particular has been bothering me for the last two days. Why is the leather version of the Diane Von Furstenberg Marisa Large Shoulder Bag significantly less expensive than its denim counterpart?

When I stumbled upon this bag, I expected it to cost far more than the very reasonable $595 that the fine folks at DVF would like us to pay for it. Not only is it a large, functional bag made out of sumptuously soft (I’ve fondled it, so I feel comfortable using such purple language) leather, but I saw the $725 price tag for the denim version first and automatically assumed that the leather one would carry a price tag several hundred dollars steeper. Does anyone have any idea why the leather version is less expensive? (more…)

In my mind, there are two types of designers: those that make us think about fashion and its relationship to philosophy and art, and those that make fashion accessible and wearable to the average fashion fan. Each pursuit has its own challenges, but it’s without question that Diane Von Furstenberg has the second type of clothing on lock.

Menswear was a dominant theme in DVF’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection, but it was styled in such a way that it would be totally accessible and wearable outside of an office setting. Blazers were layered over floaty chiffon, a girly rose-covered bolero was layered over a suit, and it all looked functional and fun to wear. The textural layering continued with chunky knits over sparkly patterned dresses, and Von Furstenberg threw in a few of her signature wraps for good measure. So what does this collection tell us? Diane von Furstenberg continues to slowly but steadily make her way into the handbag and accessory world. Our favorite DvF bag thus far has been the Stephanie, which has garnered massive amount of buzz and press from editors and celebrities.

Check out the video above to see accessories from the Resort line for DvF and let us know what you think of DvF continuing to break into the handbag world.

So many of you said the Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie was too big. That bag is super-sized and super fabulous. But if you still think it is too big but you liked the look, DvF has come to the rescue. The Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie Clutch is the baby sis to the larger Stephanie and is the perfect size. We are obsessed. The body of the clutch features the chain-link metallic leather design, which is truly a technique I have not seen on another bag EVER. Dimensions of the clutch, 5.5″H x 11.5″L x 3″D, are tiny when compared to the large hobo [$395 via ShopBop].

Now Diane has taken over the handbag world, continuing to bring us DvF Handbags that we can not get enough of. Not only does Diane understand a woman’s body and how to make the perfect dress among other clothing items, but she also understands the handbag world. Therefor we adore Diane von Furstenberg and look forward to seeing many more of her bags.

Luna Boston DvF Event

Guest blog courtesy of Joe from Luna Boston

Everyone at Luna Boston loves a good party, and a couple weeks ago was no exception. The Diane von Furstenberg event was one of the biggest we’ve ever had – there was a line around the block to get in before the doors even opened! Amanda and Jennifer started setting up for the event at 9am and didn’t stop until 10 minutes before the event started, when they finally had time to get ready!

For those of you that weren’t able to attend, we held the event in a penthouse suite at the FP3 condominiums in the Fort Point section of Boston. I felt like a rockstar at this place – it has 2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a terrace, and a roof deck! (And it’s on the market for a cool $2.5 mil if you’re interested!) Hillary France, our representative from the Diane von Furstenberg showroom, was there to help us show the Fall collection to attendees. (Did we mention that Hillary looks like a goddess? Tall with long, bright red hair, looks awesome in everything she wears; Basically, she’s perfect. We’re jealous. But I digress.) (more…)

Diane von Furstenberg Estella Makeup Bag

Diane von Furstenberg has solidified herself as a designer, becoming widely popular for her wrap dresses and clothing line. But DvF continues to excite us with her success in the handbag world. This past Spring the handbag world was a buzz with the unique DvF Stephanie Hobo, which I am still head over heels for. Now I find myself checking out all of the handbags that DvF has to offer and loving her more and more as an accessory designer.

Diane von Furstenberg wants to give PurseBlog readers a sneak peak at her small leather goods for Resort 2010. This collection is named “Her Name is Rio” and will hit stores this November. The collection has four styles: Estella Long Wallet (pictured in White Leather), Estella Coin Purse, Estella Card Wallet, and Estella Makeup Bag (pictured in Violet Sea Leather). Color available will be black, white, and violet sea. Prices will range from $65 for the card wallet to $195 for the long wallet. (more…)

Fall Browns

Can you believe it? Fall is right around the corner. We are still in the middle of the typical massively hot Florida summer but I am craving a Fall trip to feel crisp air and see the leaves changing. While brown is not my favorite color, it is perfect for the autumn to bring in the natural hues. Here are three of my favorite fall browns; a Diane von Furstenberg coat, Proenza Schouler bag, and Miu Miu Studded Leather Ankle Boots. The bad news is both the handbag and coat are sold out, but the Miu Miu shoes are available at Net A Porter for $870.

What wardrobe items are you craving for fall?

Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie Hobo
We know, we know. We’ve written about the Diane Von Furstenberg Stephanie Hobo ad nauseum. Surely, some of you are sick of hearing about it. Too bad! We’re not sick of writing about it quite yet, particularly when they’ve just released a gorgeous silver version for fall.

Personally, I think it’s brilliant; the gold was warm and sunny for summer weather, and the combination of steely light and dark silvers that go into the fall version would look great against winter’s dark, woolen clothing. It’s bright without being inappropriate for the season, and the suede trim makes it an even better idea. This is definitely on my short list for must-have fall bags – grab it before it sells out, because it absolutely will. Buy through ShopBop for $875.

Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie Hobo

Just a heads up to all of you who loved the Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie Hobo, it is back! Shop Bop is carrying it in both the large and medium size. I have the large and absolutely positively love it. It can be a tad heavy at times, but this handbag looks entirely different from every other in my closet. Buy the medium through Shop Bop for $875 and the large through Shop Bop for $995 before they sell out again.

The Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie Hobo is easily one of the most sought-after bags of the season, but there’s one thing lacking about it – good pictures on the manufacturer’s website! Because the designer’s handbag line is new and isn’t sold in many online stores, it’s been difficult to get a handle on what exactly the Stephanie looks like. Megs’ pictures have helped, but what about this elusive magenta color that DVF claims to make?

Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie in Magenta

Well wonder no more! ShopBop has the medium Stephanie available in magenta, and while the site isn’t known for fantastic pictures, it’s much easier to get an idea of the color variation from the bag’s listing on their site. Oh, and what a color variation it is! It appears to include royal blue, purple, and the aforementioned magenta in the innovative leather links, and I absolutely love it. I prefer brights as neutral (as opposed to neutrals as neutrals, as with the gold Stephanie), so this is the version that I’d want hanging from my arm. Buy through ShopBop for $875.
