Like many little girls, I once had a pair of patent leather sandals and I thought they looked fantastic! However, I soon got over them, especially when I discovered that they were not sandals; they were heel-scraping torture instruments! Don't you think the soft tactility of most quality bags (whether leather or fabric) is one of their main pleasures? I quite like the bow motif, but, again, it would be so much nicer in a softer, slouchier material. I agree – to me, patent leather is hard and uncomfortable to wear or hold.
