Christian Louboutin’s various adventures in handbag design have been…well, adventures. While the designer is virtually a sure thing when it comes to footwear of almost any type, his bags tend to range from beautiful to head-scratchingly odd, often in the span of a single season. Certain types of whimsy and irreverence just play themselves out more proficiently on the structured backdrop of a shoe; a high-end bag requires a slightly different sensibility.

While the designer is virtually a sure thing when it comes to footwear of almost any type, his bags tend to range from beautiful to The Christian Louboutin Sweet Charity Bag was immediately one of my favorites from the brand when the design made its debut over a year ago, and this latest version is almost as good as the original. I may be over the stud trend, but when combined with a ladylike bag like this one, I think they provide some welcome ideological contrast.
When Christian Louboutin gets something right, he gets it really right – not only are studs dead in the water, but I didn’t even like denim bags back when they were having a moment, which has now completely passed. Somehow, though, Louboutin manages to combine both on one bag in such a way that it makes me reconsider my stance on the trends. I’ll still take a pass, but if these studs had been leather-covered instead of shiny, this bag would have received my full support. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $1695.
