Fashion critics may have loved Chanel’s seafaring Spring 2012 runway collection, complete with literal seashell clutches, but future handbag customers were a little more hesitant. After all, when the inspiration is that literal, exactly what are the non-runway accessories going to look like? As it turns out, they look like an utterly gorgeous collection of bags in powdery pastels, faithful to the Chanel DNA but somehow with a lighter, fresher touch.

One of our Twitter followers alerted us that Chanel had made these images of Chanel’s Spring 2012 Handbags available on their website yesterday, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with what I found when I went to investigate. The collection is heavy on the excellent Boy Chanel shapes, which bring the flap bag construction to a younger, less ladylike audience. I’ve also included the collection’s Outstanding Pieces with those post, which means that there’s plenty of precious pastel exotics to enjoy after the jump. Oh, and some bling. We (and Chanel) wouldn’t deny you some bling.

I have a pretty fabulous handbag collection, but I am missing the Chanel bag.  I keep thinking that this is such an iconic bag how can I not have one?  I have no use for the small quilted chain handled flap bag….my sunglasses case will not even fit into it.  There are a couple nice sized bags above but I just do not like them enough to spend the $$.  Maybe one day, but for now I will just focus on the Givenchy or Celine that is on the top of my list.

do you guys have a picture of the double flap bag in mint croc? i saw it at neiman marcus. it was displayed with a salmon colored croc and a metallic blue green matte croc. i wanted to take a picture but that’s not allowed so i refrained myself.

These are all gorgeous!  Note from an old ex-accessory editor:  40 years later…..a classic Chanel as well as LV, Hermes and maybe even Coach are still “good to go”…classic, chic and always in style.  Don’t forget this when you’re spending the big bucks on a bag.

I like the black & off white one with the top handle.  Very classic.
