Very Cool: The Chanel Cage Classic Flap Bag

When you look at the crop of handbags that went down the runway for Spring 2013, it’s no doubt that the industry is looking to move forward, and sooner rather than later. The best collections of the season are dotted with futuristic materials from neoprene to see-through vinyl to highly pigmented acrylics, and as always, Chanel is among the brands leading the way into the new look. Chanel Spring 2013 is fun and futuristic without losing functionality in the vast majority of the bags, which is something quite important when it comes to accessories innovation.

Sometimes, though, it’s worth it to sacrifice a bit of traditional functionality in the pursuit of aesthetic greatness. That’s exactly what the Chanel Cage Classic Flap Bag does – sure, you can’t toss your loose change into it after a Starbucks run, but the beaded wire cage stretched over a thin metal frame creates a dazzling, delicate visual that’s unlike any Chanel flap bag I’ve seen before. (And trust me, I’ve seen a lot of them.) The photo above is from V Magazine’s Twitter account, and below, check out Vladi’s photo of the bag from his Chanel Spring 2013 shoot. Those perfume bottles? Inside the bag!
