The Best Celebrity Bag Picks of Last Week, Including Aretha Franklin’s Chanel

This holiday(ish) edition of our (usually) bi-weekly celeb bag round-up is chock full of high-profile ladies who all have one thing in common: if they were at a party, you’d totally want to be at that party. If they were all at the same party, people would probably never shut up about that party. And while I’m not really interested in sidling up for an intimate convo with Kendall Jenner or Suki Waterhouse, I would revel in the opportunity to have a cocktail with Ms. Aretha Franklin, Laverne Cox, Emily Blunt or J-Law. At any rate, there are some seriously gorgeous handbags within, and a surprising amount of Coach!

Aretha Franklin
Chanel Classic Flap

It seems that once a woman reaches a certain level of prestige, the number of acceptable handbag brands she can carry shrinks to about three. Aretha reached that level about 40 years ago, so at this point in her career/legacy, it’s possible that she and Chanel are totally exclusive.

Emily Blunt
Coach Dakotah Crossbody Bag
$525 via Coach

Fun fact: this is only the second time we’ve ever featured Emily on this site, and she’s been carrying this exact Coach bag both times. Emily clearly loves her Coach Dakotah, and also gets way more use out of one bag than 96% of other celebs.

Jennifer Lawrence
Coach Tatum Studded Tall Tote
$1,295 via Coach

Coach has really upped their game in past seasons, but I am still sort of gobsmacked that this is a Coach bag. I saw that high-end craftmanship and intricate detailing, and about six other brands came to mind, all considerably more high end than Coach. Which I think we can all agree is good news for Coach.

Katie Holmes
Valentino Butterfly Camouflage Tote
$3,995 via Bergdorf Goodman

More fun facts: Katie was carrying her Valentino Rockstud Camo Tote non-stop at the beginning of this year, but now it seems she’s moved on to this gorgeous butterfly print Valentino tote. Strangely enough, a $4K bag with butterflies on it does not help you blend into the crowd in NYC in any way whatsoever.

Kendall Jenner
Marc Jacobs Incognito Bag
$2,600 via Saks

Lest us never forget that Marc Jacobs is still a viable brand in the handbag department. Here’s Kendall Jenner, completely failing to be incognito as she sneaks into LAX after midnight, and carrying one of the brand’s latest and best offerings.

Khloé Kardashian
Hermès Birkin

Here’s Khloe Kardashian, sitting courtside at a Clippers game with her tidy black Hermès Birkin. She looks great, the bag looks great, but why is she still doing basketball wifey duty post-divorce? Has basketball truly been her great love this whole time?

Laverne Cox
ZAC Zac Posen Eartha North-South Satchel
$595 via Bloomingdale’s

I was just raving about the Eartha last week when Jordin Sparks was carrying it, and here it is again in a slightly different iteration on the arm of the forever fabulous Laverne Cox.

Suki Waterhouse
Chloé Faye Small Shoulder Bag
$1,950 via LUISAVIAROMA

British model/actress/fashion enigma Suki Waterhouse recently carried this little Chloé bag to the NYC premiere of American Sniper (her BF Bradley Cooper’s new flick). The Faye is a design that somehow succeeds at being dainty and rugged at the same time, so my interest is definitely piqued. Also, you can’t see much of her dress here, but it’s Stella McCartney and it’s pretty fantastic.
