Ahh, the Oscars! There's nothing like a good red carpet, and the 2013 Academy Awards didn't disappoint when it came to interesting evening bags. (Although, in our opinion, the clothes were better at the Golden Globes.) Roger Vivier once again won the night, but there was a pleasant amount of variation among the attendees.
One big trend that you almost couldn't escape was actresses who matched their clutches exactly to the color of their dresses. It's a bit bridesmaid-y for my personal taste, but I suppose that when you're attending an event like the Oscars, you just want to get it as right as you can. In that spirit, we've collected below some ladies who did well with their handbag choices last night.
Slide 1 / 16
First, let's ease into things with the biggest non-shocker of the evening: Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman carrying a Marchesa Crystal Minaudiere alongside her custom Marchesa maternity gown. Shop Marchesa evening bags via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 2 / 16
The next least surprising thing about Sunday night's handbags was how many stars opted for Roger Vivier, including big winner Jennifer Lawrence. She paired her Dior Haute Couture gown with a silver Roger Vivier Boite de Nuit Clutch. Shop Roger Vivier via MyTheresa.
Slide 3 / 16
Jennifer Garner also chose a Roger Vivier Boite de Nuit Clutch to match her grape Gucci dress. Shop Roger Vivier via MyTheresa.
Slide 4 / 16
Chinese actress Fan Bingbing chose a black Roger Vivier Pilgrim Clutch as a contrast against her magenta Marchesa ball gown. Shop Roger Vivier via MyTheresa.
Slide 5 / 16
Actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum went with contast as well, choosing a blush Christian Louboutin Silk Clutch to go with her black lace Rachel Roy gown, altered to accomodate her pregnancy. Shop Christian Louboutin via Net-a-Porter.
Slide 6 / 16
A lot of stars went for matchy-matchy clutch looks last night, like Jennifer Hudson with her blue Roberto Cavalli gown and Jimmy Choo Cosma Clutch. Pick up the silver version for $1,595 via Nordstrom.
Slide 7 / 16
Jennifer Aniston also kept things tonal - her Valentino gown and Salvatore Ferragamo Box Clutch are a very close match. Shop Salvatore Ferragamo via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 8 / 16
With how closely the color of Kerry Washington's coral Prada Satin Clutch matches her Miu Miu dress, it wouldn't surprise me if the company custom dyed it for her. Pick up your own pink Prada satin clutch for $650 via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 9 / 16
When you want to match, white on white is kind of a no-brainer - Queen Latifah looks radiant in her Badgley Mischka dress and matching Judith Leiber Streamline Minaudiere, which I wish Leiber would start making again. It's my all-time favorite red carpet bag.
Shop Judith Leiber via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 10 / 16
Glowing Octavia Spencer also went for the neutral match, in this case with a Tadashi Shoji gown and Edie Parker Pearlized Clutch. Shop Edie Parker via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 11 / 16
Between her scarlet David Meister dress and glittering tonal Swarovski Clutch, actress Marcia Gay Harden looked ravishing in red. Shop via Swarovski.com.
Slide 12 / 16
Sandra Bullock also carried a Swarovski Clutch, although hers didn't match her Elie Saab gown quite as carefully. Shop via Swarovski.com.
Slide 13 / 16
Instead of matching colors, some actresses choose to match designers. Salma Hayek chose an Alexander McQueen Python Skull Clutch to complement her McQueen gown. (And that's no coincidence - hubby Francois-Henri Pinault's company owns McQueen.) Her bag can be yours for $2,315 via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 14 / 16
Elizabeth Banks, also in McQueen, carried an Alexander McQueen Metal Skull Clutch to the Vanity Fair after-party. Pick up a similar piece for $1,995 via Neiman Marcus.
Slide 15 / 16
Jane Fonda, looking absolutely bangin' in yellow Versace, opted for a sparkly Jimmy Choo Claire Clutch. Pick up the multicolor version for $7,000 via Jimmy Choo.
Slide 16 / 16
Lastly, there's perhaps the most famous red carpet bag of the entire bunch - little Quvenzhane Wallis and her custom-made puppy purse. According to her, this one was made to look like her pup at home.
