Do you hear the crickets? Our Burberry category has been quiet for quite some time simply because many of the designs I’ve seen don’t wow me. Sure, Burberry is known for its nova check pattern, but after you grow tired of checkered bags, there isn’t much to lure you in. And then there’s another problem: some designs that we see from Burberry are just… weird. All of this makes me sad because Burberry is a brand I adore, especially their Prorsum line of apparel (the jackets are KILLER).

With that in mind, it brings me great joy to show you the Burberry East-West Buffalo Tote, which not only offers an elegant style but is also priced very reasonably. The little sliver of my hear that wants so badly for Burberry to succeed at handbags is jumping for joy right now.

Burberry East-West Buffalo Tote, $1,195 via Neiman Marcus

With a slightly slouchy silhouette, this bag’s classic design shines through with deep plum buffalo leather and golden hardware. I love how unexpected and demure the color choice is, especially on a leather this thick and durable.

You know me well by now, I am a sucker for shoulder straps and this bag has one with curb chain ends along with double top handles. The top of the bag has a zipper with a logo clasp and overall dimensions are 9.5″ x 15″ x 7″. And here is the second best part behind the appearance, the price: a mere $1,195 via Neiman Marcus, which in the handbag world, is a steal.

I still find it funny how $1195 is considered a “steal”.

I completely agree – but for majority of bags we cover in the designer category, this is a steal (oddly enough)!

It might be less expensive by comparison to some other designer bags – but it is NOT ‘affordable’. Just because something is cheapER than something else, does not make it cheap.

I found this title sadly misleading – I got all excited thinking maybe I could save up for this …. but I guess ‘affordable’ in my mind just has a whole different meaning.

I think perhaps a different word choice would have been better :)

(and I’m not trying to be down on the blog or the post – I’m just down on how far out of my range supposedly ‘affordable’ designer bags are haha)

That is why we have the “savvy” category too!! In the designer handbag world those are the more contemporary bags that are also on average less than $500.

Burberry fits into a different category – but I totally catch your drift!

  • Reina

Never thought to add a burberry bag into my collection. Their trench’s and jackets on the other hand – magnifique!!

  • ninjaninja

    What? That’s affordable?

    • http://www.purseblog.com/ Megs Mahoney Dusil

You all are right! Changed the title to semi-affordable :)

  • louch

Reminds me of Marc Jacobs with the padlock and chain strap – not original.

  • mochababe73

Cute bag but not worth the price. I would venture to say that if it had the M by MJ label that it would be around the $400 range. Completely paying for the Burberry name even though it doesn’t even look like it came from the brand.

  • Sandra Rowley

I completely understand what you are going for here. There are categories of handbags. For a premiere designer bag this Burberry is well priced for the leather and craftsmanship that you are paying for.

  • J Umm

I don’t get how that is a “steal” we aren’t all loaded like you Meg! Burberry apparel is to die for, yes i agree, but handbags…. not so much.

  • LDJ

I love this bag!!! But @ $1195, it can stay on the shelf.

  • Top Jewelry Show

    I love this bag!!

  • Islamic Clothing Designer

I love this bags these are so trendy.

  • Berta

This is one great bag!  Absolutely love the hardware detail and the leather is of excellent quality…for everyday wearing.  And yes $1195 not a “steal”, but great quality/value.
