Amanda’s 10 Favorite Moisturizing Products to Get Your Face, Body and Hair Through the Rest of Winter

We’re in the depths of winter weather right now in New York City, and if your skin is anything like mine, this is the time of year when it’s begging for attention the most. I’m dry, prone to redness and have to battle flaky dry patches constantly, but in my six winters in the Northeast, I’ve finally found a mix of products that keeps me smooth and soft literally from head to toe. If you’re looking for a little problem-solving inspiration as we look at the back half of winter, check out my recommendations below.

Amika Nourishing Hair Mask
$28 via Sephora

My hair is fine and thin, so I usually shy away from hair masks, but it’s also dry and bleached, so it really needs a hair mask sometimes. This one doesn’t weigh me down or make me greasy even though it packs a serious punch of moisture, and it also smells fantastic.

ArtNaturals Scalp18 Medicated Coal Tar Shampoo
$14.20 via Amazon

Dandruff is something that’s always a little awkward to talk about, and winter makes it worse for almost everyone. A few weeks ago I got frustrated and started scouring Amazon for a solution (I feel like there’s always a solution on Amazon) and landed on this. The formula’s pleasant peppermint smell masks most of the coal odor, and it gets the job done while moisturizing my hair really well.

Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealing Creme
$32 via Sephora

Concealer tends to get crusty-looking or flaky on me during dry weather, but this formula packs enough moisture that the coverage looks natural and doesn’t settle into dry skin.

Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb
$38 via Sephora

I’d heard a lot of good things about this cream and started wearing it under my makeup at the beginning of winter. Not only did I love it enough to finish the jar, but I just bought my second one. It provides both all-day moisture and a wonderful foundation for my makeup.

Belif Witch Hazel Herbal Extract Toner
$28 via Sephora

You have to be careful with toner in winter because so many traditional formulas have alcohol in them. This one doesn’t, thankfully, but it does have lots of ingredients to calm, soothe and moisturize your skin. (Also, a bottle lasts forever–you only need a tiny bit for your whole face.)

Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase
$59 via Sephora

If you like your moisturizer but need a little extra oomph during dry weather, this serum is my favorite to layer under a heavy cream. It’s thin and watery, so it doesn’t feel heavy at all, but its impact is much bigger than the texture would lead you to believe.

Dr. Jart Water Replenishment Cotton Sheet Mask
$7.50 via Sephora

My skin is always at its best when I make the time to do a light peel (this one is my favorite) followed by a moisture-packed sheet mask, like this one, twice a week.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream
$30 via Sephora

FAB’s super-popular Ultra Repair Cream is great for your face AND your body (and I’ve used it on both frequently–they’re not lying), and it comes in a big tub for 30 bucks. If you need a place to start upgrading a basic routine, start here.

Milk Sunshine Skin Tint SPF30
$42 via Sephora

I’m super picky about how color cosmetics on my face will make my skin look: I want decent coverage, but I also want to be dewy, and not a lot of products pull off both at the same time. This skin tint tends toward medium coverage (and is definitely buildable to a true medium) and leaves my skin feeling and looking well-moisturized and healthy.

Origins Drunk Up Intensive Overnight Mask
$26 via Sephora

This is marketed as a mask, but I wear it every night like a night cream and it’s the only thing that keeps the flaky patches away all winter. Not only that, but it costs a fraction of what most heavy-duty night creams will set you back.
