Be&D Woodstock Portfolio Messenger Bag

Firstly, I must apologize for the extremely slow start to the week on PurseBlog. You woke up, checked PurseBlog, and saw no new posts. That is because when my alarm went off this morning I somehow convinced myself that it is Sunday so I could turn off my alarm and sleep as long as I wanted. It is nearly 11 am. That is bad. Part of the reason why I am so tired is because yesterday Vlad and I went horseback riding. It was pretty much our first time and nothing about horseback riding it like in the movies. It is hard, intense, and has me much sorer than I imagined. That is the story of why things are off to a slow start today.

And that is also the reason why I am reviewing the Be&D Woodstock Portfolio Messenger Bag. You see, yesterday I didn’t even think for a moment about what bag I would take horseback riding. I had been using my Rebecca Minkoff Matinee and popped that on my arm and took it out the door. I had to leave my bag in the car, obviously. But I imagined if I took a great/compact messenger bag I could have slung it over my body and taken it with me on the horse.

No, I do not need my bag with me on the horse, but this is just hypothetical. And it is still a great idea to have a good messenger bag in your handbag collection, which will free up your hands. Be&D is such a great brand. Their bags are edgy and funky with great attention to detail and the materials being used. The Be&D Woodstock Portfolio Messenger Bag features whipstitched leather, a chain link strap, and a few silvertone studs. The leather is entirely soft. Actually after talking about horseback riding and thinking about where I was yesterday, I can even see a bit of a Western vibe from this bag.

The shoulder strap can either be worn as a single or double strap, which will give you a 14″ or 25″ drop. The inside has functional pockets; zipper and two open pockets. Overall dimensions are 13″W X 8Â½”H X 1Â½”D. I may not wearing this bag next time I horseback ride, but I still need a great messenger bag. Buy through Saks for $795.

Loved this blog….you always make me laugh!! As I started reading this I was thinking ok, wait, why does Megs need a bag on her horse, and you answered me straight away. Totally made me crack up. I also see a western feel in this bag. Great color! I kind of wish it did not have a chain strap, but I love the bag part!

I laughed when I read your post too (and I was wondering where you were this morning!!). My daughters ride, and I thought it would be a swell idea to take it up myself, at age 40. Wrong! So I know the pain you’re experiencing right now. It is a heck of a lot harder than it looks! I also have a handbag story tied to riding too! I hid my favorite Prada bag in my car when I took my daughter to one of her riding competitions. Someone clearly saw me hide it, because when I returned to the car the windows were smashed in and my bright orange Prada bag was gone!! Knowing full well that the thieves would not be able to run through a busy park with a bright orange bag, I went back to the scene the next day and found it (completely ruined, and sadly blood-soaked, under a tree next to were my car had been parked). So the moral of this story is, don’t take ANY bag riding with you, even one as cute as this one!

  YES! It is so hard to ride. And I was thinking the same thing – that taking a bag to a horseback riding place could just end in your car being broken into. Because most people never take a bag with them on the horse, for a good reason, and that means bags are left in people’s cars.

Definitely western touches in this bag. Very nice for looking like a hardcore rider without actually having to mount a horse. : )

I am impressed that you went riding. I am terrified of horses they are such powerful animals. So beautiful and strong. The last time I went was in high school and I completely trusted my riding partner I was too scared to sit on the horse by myself. Anyway, my sister loves horses and used to teach kids with special needs to ride for the day or week. I remember one time she had to hold a little girl in her arms while she rode the horse because the girl had brittle bone disease and couldn’t sit on the horse by herself. As you now know it isn’t very comfortable. Thinking about my sister I could see her rocking this bag while riding. She likes small bags anyway so I can see this being perfect.

  That is a great story Jane. Yes, if someone was a skilled rider and needed something to take on the horse, I think this bag would be beyond perfect. It is rugged yet chic and current!
