Balenciaga    Introducing...

Introducing the Brand New Balenciaga Le Dix Bag

We’ve been awaiting this moment more or less since the day that Alexander Wang was announced as the new creative director at Balenciaga: we now know what Wang’s first flagship bag for the brand, the Balenciaga Le Dix Bag, will look like. If the name sounds familiar to you, it should.

CR Fashion Book, the source of the photo above, talked to Wang and got his first-hand account of the details of the bag. He explained that the name “Le Dix,” which means “The 10” in French, referred to the address of the original Balenciaga salon in Paris, but Balenciaga fans know that it also has a place in the brand’s handbag lore. When it first debuted, the bags that we now know as Balenciaga Motorcycle Bags were referred to as Le Dix Bags.

Beyond that, this bag has little to do with the brand’s other most famous bag designs. Instead, this looks more like some of the seasonal bags that Balenciaga has produced in the recent past; sleek, slightly rigid and with a ladylike-but-modern woman in mind. That’s right in line with what’s going on in high-end handbag design at the moment, and the dual-tone hardware in particular feels like a thoroughly contemporary nod to the variable, casual way that so many women dress now.

It’s not a ground-breaking, uber-directional design by any means, but based on the number of variations that have already been put into production, it’s meant to serve as a foundational piece instead of a beacon for editorial attention. Expect to see this Le Dix around for seasons to come, with prices starting at $995 for the pochette and topping out, for now, at $2,250 for the version with an added zipper compartment. Right now, the standard version will come in at $1,945 and be available soon.
