Home decor impresario Jonathan Adler is know for his modern, unconventional and quirky interior aesthetic. Can he do the same with handbags? His Fall 2013 collection marks Adler’s strongest foray into accessories yet, and his aesthetic is evident, especially with this Jonathan Adler Medium Hex Handle Tote. When a designer from another area turns to handbags, his or her aesthetic is going to be different from those who are practiced in the art of the bag.
While I’ve always has a soft spot in my heart for the downtown chic Balenciaga City Bag, I’m also a fan of creative director Alexander Wang’s brand new Balenciaga Le Dix Bag. His designs are sleek, simple, and very ladylike. However, after looking this Balenciaga Tube Round M Tote Bag, I couldn’t help but be more appreciative Wang predecessor Nicolas Ghesquière.
Today marks my last day of interning with the PurseBlog team. This has been an incredible experience, and I’m so happy to have been able to write and share my thoughts with everyone! I thought that, as my last post, I would like to talk about one of my all-time favorite brands: Alexander McQueen. I’m a particular fan of the McQueen skull-clasp cluthes, and as soon as I saw this Alexander McQueen Floral-Embellished Skull Clasp Clutch, I knew it was the perfect bag to cover.
While winter is slowly approaching here in NYC, I’d love this Sam Edelman Bryn Pouchette Bag to add a little bit of sunshine to my winter wardrobe. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Christian Louboutin Spike Clutch, and ever since, I’ve been obsessed with spiked accessories. Sam Edelman’s shoulder bag isn’t as extreme as Louboutin’s clutch, but this design should steal some attention anyway.
I will never forget the first time I saw a Alexander Wang Printed Lizard Emile Satchel. I first saw someone toting around this satchel on the subway in Soho, and I will admit I was not familiar with any of Alexander Wang’s designs at the time. I was waiting for the R train on my way to class when a chic young woman in her 20s stood next to me on the platform, carrying a black leather satchel.
A lock and key on a bag isn’t anything new – Chloe Paddington, anyone? On the other hand, a door latch used as a clasp? That’s more unexpected, a little bit fabulous, and, dare I say, genius.
As my track record on this site would indicate, I tend to gravitate towards conversation pieces, and the Viktor and Rolf Lock Chain Clutch is definitely one of them.
Whoever said “You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your handsome prince,” clearly never looked on the Kate Spade website and came across this beautiful Kate Spade I Kissed a Frog Clutch. Who needs a toad when you have a golden frog atop an all-glitter evening bag? This clutch is bound to fill your heart with glee whether or not you have found your Prince Charming.
Without any context, who would have thought that carrying around a crystalized zoo animal would be so posh? Somehow, year after year, Judith Leiber makes its eccentric, idiosyncratic style work. The brand’s crystal-studded minaudière bags are Leiber’s most iconic pieces by a mile, and even though there are imitations, nothing beats owning the real deal. From the first teardrop-shaped minaudière, which debuted decades ago, Leiber’s designs have become steadily more unique and more daring.
I’m rather disappointed in myself that it took me this long to write about one of my all-time favorite designers, Michael Kors. In my defense, I did write about a pair of fabulous Michael Kors Bromley Boots on our TalkShoes site not long ago. Admittedly, I got so sidetracked with other fabulous bags that I forgot to talk about one of my favorites, but how could you blame me?
Believe it or not, writing about luxury handbags has one itty bitty downside. It’s hard to believe there’s a downside at all, right? I mean, I get to look the latest handbags in the industry and analyze them and report back to you with the pros, cons and aesthetic pleasures (for the most part) of such bags. Again, what’s not to love?
