After seeing the full Gucci Spring 2014 Handbags collection, I instantly fell in love. However, like the our original review mentions, I also worried a bit about practicality. New York weather is not always in a fashion girl’s favor; one gust of wind and I’d be hitting an innocent bystander with the fringe of my Gucci Bamboo Fringe Shopper, not to mention that the fringe is probably a bit long for my rather petite stature.
Some designers have such a specific design aesthetic and consistently use such specific details in recognizable ways that you can spot a new bag from the brand a mile away – think Bottega Veneta’s iconic woven patterns, or Mulberry’s classic postman’s lock. The same can be said of contemporary designer Alexander Wang when looking at this Wallie Washed-Leather Backpack; Wang never ceases to amaze me, and I was instantly intrigued by this backpack.
This week on TalkShoes, we looked at the Chanel Fall 2014 collection – if you thought the bags were crazy, you gotta see the shoes. Also spotted at the Chanel fashion show was Rihanna, rocking a pair of Chanel sneakers from the Haute Couture collection. Also discussed on the blog was the popular espadrille trend and how we styled Tod’s slip-on sneakers two ways – nothing better then a little versatility!
I don’t think I need to reiterate the love we have for handbags here at PurseBlog, but sometimes a handbag is that much better when a nice price tag is attached. The prices in this roundup of Bag Deals won’t make you faint, but I’ll warn you, it may give you the urge to buy more than one handbag. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
We have a lot of great things over on TalkShoes this week that you won’t want to miss. We picked our favorite Shoe of the Week, rounded up the best jeweled sandals under $500 and spotted the lovable Reese Witherspoon wearing a fabulous pair of Christian Louboutins to the Independent Spirit Awards. If that’s not enough, we even reviewed the Dior Fall 2014 shoes from Paris Fashion Week that may leave you speechless, but not in a good way.
Now that Marc Jacobs has said goodbye to his sixteen year career at Louis Vuitton in order to focus on his eponymous line, it’s exciting to see just what Marc Jacobs has up his creative sleeve for his own brand. With someone who has as much of an intuitive gift for fashion as Jacobs does, who knows what to anticipate. What I didn’t anticipate was the pattern-clashing extravaganza happening on this Marc Jacobs Polly Mini Glossed-Elaphe and Leather Shoulder Bag.
There are many ways to get into the holiday spirit. For some people, it might be beginning your holiday shopping, listening to festive music or getting your inaugural gingerbread latte at Starbucks. For Olympia Le-Tan, it’s apparently creating another of signature book-themed clutches. We tend to agree with her, though – what better way to get in the holiday spirit then toting around a holiday classic like this Olympia Le-Tan How The Grinch Stole Christmas Embroidered Clutch to all your holiday parties?
Designers like Fendi, The Row and Tom Ford all put great emphasis on fur during their Fall 2013 collections, both in ready-to-wear or accessories. For me, though, it was this 3.1 Phillip Lim Fur Front Leather Racer Bag that was not only a standout piece on the runway, but more importantly, redefined fur from the way I remember my great-grandmother’s mink fur coat.
If you can’t believe it’s Novemeber already, that makes one of us. Before we know it, the year 2013 will be coming to a close, and with the end of the year comes a lot of holiday traveling, whether it be across state lines or cross-country. Either way, a bag of some sort will making the traveling experience all the more pleasant, beyond simply being necessary for the journey.
Wow, I can’t believe I just wrote “Weekend of November 1st.” Does anyone know where October went, because I sure don’t. Another end to a hectic week and the only way I see fit to reward ourselves is with another dose of bag deals. The spectrum of choices this week is so wide that something is bound to tickle your fancy.
