The Met Gala always swings back and forth between being the best red carpet of the year or, at least, the most interesting red carpet of the year. Every celeb you know and love is there (as well as a few you’d totally forgotten about), and as an added bonus, there’s no four-hour award show attached that you feel like have you have to sit through afterward.
I’m a bit biased, but I think all of the celebs featured herein are influential, albeit some of them only in fashion. In a larger sense, only one has made a lasting cultural impact that propelled her onto this year’s Time 100 list, and only one has the clout to bring one of her favorite designers along to the gala as her escort.
Celebs have turned back to their Chanel bags and Birkins in a big way this week, and it seems fitting, because what else should you carry when you’re standing on a helipad? Love them or hate them, few bags communicate the sense of wealth and power that a Birkin can, and that’s why the celebs we both love and hate (and love to hate) will continue to carry Birkins until the end of time.
As you might have heard, Reed Krakoff is back, and celebs have rallied around him to help him launch his new collab with Kohl’s. Launching a collab with a mass-market retailer a year after you shutter your luxury brand is strange timing indeed, but if you liked Krakoff’s old line but balked at the prices, there’s a 100% chance you’ll want to see these ultra affordable REED x Kohl’s bags.
We have long admired Miranda Kerr because few celebs (yes, even supermodels) make A-list style look so effortless. Last week, we showed you all the chunky heels Taylor Swift has been favoring as she continues to careen through the fly-by-night fashion preferences of her mid-twenties, but if the thought of chunky heels (and being in your mid-twenties) triggers a slight gag reflex, well, Miranda’s sartorial shoe game is the perfect antidote to all of that.
You can mark every spring by one recurring fashion trend: the return of the mini bag. They’re back every year right around now, and this year, they seem to be more miniature than ever. (But, then again, I feel like I say that every year.) In addition to a fresh crop of mini bags, we also have a double dose of jet-setting Jennifer Lopez for you, plus an appearance by her eminence Judge Judy, whom we would include in many more celeb handbag roundups, if given the opportunity.
Celebs at home and abroad dragged out their favorite Gucci bags last week, whether they were hot off the runway or several seasons old. Gucci is enjoying massive success with its latest lines of shoes and handbags, and we have to wonder which storied fashion house will have this sort of mini-renaissance next.
