The hottest color of the week technically isn’t a color at all. Several celebs were drawn to bright white handbags this week, and a new handbag from Tod’s continues to make waves with LA celebs. (I’m sorry.
Reese Witherspoon is arguably our single most prolific celebrity collector of handbags and shoes. If you’ve ever loved a brightly colored pump or satchel, Reese has that. In fact, she probably has it in triplicate. But her ardor for bright colors has been slipping into overdrive recently, and we’ve seen Reese wearing gorgeous pumps in every color of the rainbow (and a few that definitely fall outside of the ROYGBIV schema).
Celebs didn’t stray far from their favorite brands last week, with the notable exception of Taylor Swift, who carried a bag from an Italian designer who I don’t believe we’ve ever seen her carry before. (Her most recent edition of Many Bags will back me up on that.) In color trend news, ladies love pink.
While there is usually a bit of overlap between NYFW, LFW, MFW and PFW, this year event organizers were careful mostly not to step on anyone’s toes. (With the exception of Paris of course, because Paris.) New York, London, and Milan are happening in quick succession, with no more than a day of space between all three.
It’s late February, so of course that means it’s time for Los Angeles celebrities to bust out the barely-there denim. It’s basically a seasonal rite of passage. I jest, of course–this seems a tad early for short shorts, even by LA standards, but that’s certainly this week’s most notable trend, right behind giant black designer totes.
Every year, Sports Illustrated takes advantage of the surplus of models congregating in NYC during NYFW by throwing a few launch parties for their latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. When I say “a few”, I mean it: this year’s launch even included a two-day, two-city fan festival in NYC and Nashville (?), in addition to all the usual high-profile, celeb-and-press-only events.
In 2013, Amanda Seyfried signed on as one of Givenchy‘s celebrity faces, and she’s since appeared in ad campaigns for the brand’s perfume, apparel and handbags over the last two years. (The Many Bags of Amanda Seyfried from 2013 will give you some idea of what her collection looked like pre-Givenchy contract.) It’s obviously been a very satisfactory business relationship for both parties, as Amanda seldom carries anything but Givenchy, and, in turn, Givenchy continues to keep her well-employed with new fragrance campaigns.
New York Fashion Week is officially upon us, and celebrities have amped up their handbag game accordingly. This week’s picks are a lot more sparkly and colorful, as well as noticeably more high-end. NYFW gives celebs plenty of opportunities to carry their preferred totes and satchels by day and their most dazzling designer clutches by night, though some opt for bags with chains!
This is a serious question: how many “Kendall + Kylie” fashion lines are the Jenners legally allowed to vend at the same time? I ask because we’re up to three. That being said, their new line of shoes, apparel and accessories will probably be far more appealing to those who would never deign to enter a PacSun or Topshop.
