We all know that it’s the season of giving, and that the warm fuzzies that come from making someone else’s day with a thoughtful token of your appreciation are totally worth all of the effort that you’re putting in to selecting the perfect presents. But what about you? The most important relationship of your life is the one that you have with yourself, after all. The Twitter hashtag #treatyoself has been going around for a while, and we think that for the holidays, it’s particularly apt.

Dealing with family and travel and arranging time off from work and making sure everyone else is happy is often a burden that falls disproportionately on the women in any given family, so we’ve arranged a small group of treats, all under $200, to inspire a little bit of self-appreciation. After all, if you’re going to cook Christmas dinner, you probably deserve presents above and beyond everyone else’s. If you have more ideas, leave them in the comments.

I can personally recommend the J.Crew Zip Leather Gloves – I just got a pair in the mail to tide me over until really serious gloves are necessary. They come in three colors of incredibly soft Italian leather, and the grey cashmere lining offers a bit of extra warmth. The wrist-length cut and little gold zippers make me feel like a 1960s girl super hero. Buy through J.Crew for $98.

The Cambridge Satchel Company Fluoro Satchel is easily the most affordable It Bag on the accessories market right now – at $155, you’re not going to find any other options that have graced so many street style websites. ShopBop just restocked it in all of the best brights, so now you can avoid the annoyance of international shipping if you live in the US. Buy through ShopBop for $155.

So many wonderful fashion books have come out in the past year, but for a bag lover, the CFDA American Fashion Accessories Book, edited by Conde Nast accessories guru Candy Pratts Price, is an absolute no-brainer. Buy through ShopBop for $50.

That book seems like a lot of fun – there’s my favourite picture of Kate Moss for David Yurman (second square from the bottom right).

I really need to bite the bullet and purchase one the satchels in a bright color. I know I want one, I just can’t decide which one…decisions, decisions

the cambridge satchel is always a classic, but i’m boring and would go for a more classic colour like black or brown… possible blue or green if i’m feeling a bit adventurous

Love the gloves! I also buy many books regardless of subject matter when I see the publisher is Assouline. They do such a nice job with books, especially anything to do with travel.

Oh I want that book! Think I do have to get it for myself too :)

  • Shereen

I love the gloves, but not a fan of the wrist length. Though I’m happy they’re lined with cashmere

  • Shana

I have wanted the Cambridge Satchel for a while. Maybe I can gift it to myself for my birthday!

i’ve been in love with the bright green satchel since i first saw it, it’s one of my favs bags ever!
and the gloves look pretty good too! i didn’t dare to buy some this past winter, but i’ll definitely be thinking more about it during the next one

  • Bernadette

i love the hot pink satchel!

I have pretty gloves and I have arctic mitts for the long winters here. My pair of Marc Jacobs aqua leather gloves are similar to the J. Crew ones, but without the zippers (mine have great contrast stitching!). Drives me nuts that they are wrist length, but at least they look nice with my ‘church coat.’

  • ellenbakes

Those J Crew gloves are hot! Just when I thought my holiday/birthday shopping was done!

  • Kathryn

The Cambridge Satchel is gorgeous! and it’s a great bag for all my college supplies

  • Jennie

The Cambridge Satchel is haunting me! I was so close to biting the bullet but I promised to be a good girl til the end of the year.

  • Mona

Unfortunately I really wouldn’t recommend the Cambridge Satchel. My order from them directly took ages, but that’s not even the worst thing about it. The quality just isn’t very high (parts were missing, it is kind of crudely put together, veeeery stiff leather that makes the bag no fun to use). Even for that amount, you can get a much better purse I think.

I have another book suggestion: the Alexander McQueen book, Savage Beauty. I have one on hold at my local bookstore. Hehe.
