The Many Bags of Miley Cyrus

I guess the first question I should ask before we delve into The Many Bags of Miley Cyrus is, do you like her new haircut? I do, but I’ve had an intense affection for Miley ever since she started to rebel a bit against her Disney Tween Queen image and wear combat boots and Rick Owens and lots of spikes and skulls, so I might be biased. Every young woman should do something spontaneous and maybe a little bit extreme with her hair at least once, and there are far worse ways to indulge that impulse than by going to the same world-famous LA hair stylist who created The Rachel. A desperate Britney head-shave moment it was not.

Beyond the haircut, Miley seems to be quite busy these days – filming a movie in Philadelphia, recording new music, planning a wedding to fiancé Liam Hemsworth, going to pilates. (Seriously, she hits the gym like a fiend.) Here’s hoping that she continues to avoid the curse of childhood fame and keeps on just bein’ Miley – always with a fabulous bag in tow. Check out our favorites from her collection, from Balenciaga to Prada to Chanel, after the jump.

Want It Wednesday: Michael Kors Collection Gia Top Zip Satchel

It’s been a while since we’ve put up a Want It Wednesday post, and it’s also been a while since I’ve really wanted a Michael Kors bag. Don’t get me wrong, Kors’ bags are highly wearable and I can barely make it down a block in New York City without seeing one on someone’s arm, but some of the bags simply don’t speak to me. This is not the case when it comes to the Michael Kors Collection Gia Top Zip Satchel, however. This bag speaks to me on many levels and I want nothing more than to add it to my collection and make a special place for Michael Kors in my closet.

Between the structure, the different combinations of materials and the shape, I really think this Michael Kors bag is a great staple for fall and winter.

For the LV lovers, the Louis Vuitton Neo Papillon GM is perfect for fall

Around here, we often talk about getting away from monogram bags and going for something for refined and less flashy. While some vehemently oppose monograms on their accessories, others embrace it; for that reason, it makes me happy to see such a wide variety of designs being offered from the different houses. Louis Vuitton is a household name and well known for their monogram and non-monogram bags alike, and I love it when they offer a taste of both.

Welcome the Louis Vuitton Neo Papillon GM to your screen. This bag is from the pre-fall collection and is a twist on a Louis Vuitton classic, adding a more sophisticated touch with the Monogram Revelation, which is a debossed calf leather.

Fill in the Blank: The Prada Madras Evening Bag is…

Ladies and gents, I’ve got a major crush on a Prada bag that seems like it makes little sense to add to my collection but I feel like I may dream about it… often. Over the weekend, the annual Governor’s Island Jazz Age Lawn Party took place in NYC, and while I missed out on stopping by, I closely followed images of friends that partook in this 1920s-themed weekend. If I were there, this Prada Madras Evening Bag is precisely what I would so desperately want to carry along with me.

And as much as I love this bag, I really want to hear what you all think. Before you click after the jump to hear more of what I think, make sure you share your thoughts.

Smythson makes Fashion Week jet-setting a bit more organized

If ever there were something that’s worthy of the label “fashion person problem,” it’s the difficulty in keeping your American, British, Italian and French currencies separate during the month-long seasonal jaunt through the world’s four flagship Fashion Week’s. (Ok, strictly speaking, there are only three currencies at play here – France and Italy are both on the euro. But, whatever, just go with it. PRETEND. FASHION IS ABOUT FANTASY.) As we begin hurtling toward New York Fashion week at what seems like an ever-increasing rate of speed, the New York Times was kind enough to alert us to this special edition of the Smythson Currency Case, the British company’s two-sided, double-zippered answer to all of your dollars-to-pounds-to-euros-to-more-euros issues.

Look at all this vintage Hermes eye candy on Moda Operandi

When Moda Operandi and Heritage Auctions team up to bring Heritage’s catalog of amazing pre-owned and vintage Hermes bags to online luxury shoppers everywhere, my heart always skips a beat. You never know what kind of rare gems are going to be contained within the sale, but there’s always something (and usually a lot of somethings) incredibly rare and totally gorgeous to covet. The bright red (bougainvillea, to be exact) Hermes Crocodile Birkin above, for example? Where else are you going to find that? Certainly not in an Hermes store, unless you’re a very special customer indeed.

The price points on these bags are high, of course, with the most expensive piece ringing in at $74,500. If that sounds like it’s within your budget, you can shop the sale at Moda Operandi through August 27. If spending five figures on a bag is more of a fantasy for you, check out our image gallery of the beautiful bags for sale after the jump, and don’t forget to sign up for our Hermes Birkin giveaway before it’s too late – you could have some Hermes in your closet a lot sooner than you think.

Just Can’t Get Enough: Emma Roberts and her Christian Louboutin Justine Spikes Bag

I’ve got a little crush on Emma Roberts. I’ve seen her at quite a few events and she always seems approachable and like an overall nice girl, the kind of girl with whom you’d like to have lunch and go shopping. It doesn’t hurt that she’s Julia Roberts’ niece, but Emma has made quite a name for herself in the hard-to-enter entertainment industry and it seems the fashion industry has taken a liking to her as well, mostly because of her casual day-to-day style and ease of changing to prim and proper for events.

We all know celebrities and the rest of the world knows and loves a good red soled Christian Louboutin shoe, but many do not consider their daily bags as contenders in the accessory world. I’ve watched the designs change and over the past couple seasons Christian Louboutin has truly stepped up their handbag game. Emma seems to think so too and it looks like she just can’t get enough of her Christian Louboutin Justine Spikes Bag.

Explore the Gucci Icons, starting with 3 iconic handbags

Gucci is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. The classic GG monogram is easy to spot no matter what piece it graces, but there is much more to the history of Gucci than just the logo. In 1921, Guccio Gucci started a leather goods company in Florence and within a few years, sophisticated shoppers were turning to the house of Gucci for their luxury goods. The horsebit icon, which is just as recognizable as the GG monogram, was an idea that stemmed from the many horse-riding aristocrats Guccio came to know in Italy. The brand continued to grow and expand to the massive and well-respected design house it is today, but now Gucci wants to turn back to its roots and share more of the company history by reflecting on the Gucci Icons.

While taking a stroll back through time to see the iconic items that make the brand what it is today, three iconic handbags stand out: the Stirrup, the New Bamboo, and the Jackie. Along with that, we have a gallery of imagery throughout Gucci’s history, from the early 1930s to today.

Q&A: Jerome C. Rousseau tells us what it’s like to design accessories

As consumers, we see just one side of the design process: the finished product. Even in the democratized world of the Internet, the creativity and hard work that go into making fashion inspiration come alive are still relatively shrouded in secrecy. Where do ideas come from? How do designers decide if a trend is right for their work? Which pieces does a designer look back on most fondly? What types of things do designers enjoy designing? It can be easy to forget that there’s human ingenuity behind every bag and pair of shoes.

To shed a little bit of light on all of those questions, our friends at Bloomingdale’s hooked us up with shoe designer Jerome C. Rousseau, who was kind enough to tell us about his design process, how he feels about trends and a shoe’s unique power of seduction. Check out our Q&A after the jump, and make sure to shop Jerome C. Rousseau shoes via Bloomingdales.com.

Our favorite cosmetic bags, because lipstick safety is important

One of the bags I think about the least but probably get the most use out of is my cosmetic bag. I use it daily, it travels with me and, quite frankly, I don’t take very good care of it. I should take better care of it, but instead I think I take my cute little cosmetic bag for granted. You see, it is just a matter of time until I realize I need to replace it and when that day comes, I will inevitably be taken by surprise and under-prepared.

Instead of waiting until my current bag bites the dust, I’ve decided to try something new and plan ahead. As I started thinking, I realized there are three main components I take into consideration when looking to purchase a new cosmetic bag. Find out what they are and take a look at my current picks for great cosmetic bags after the jump.

A Bag for a Cause: DKNY x FEED

Last week, I kicked off one of my mornings in an ultimate dream by having an intimate breakfast in the Bloomingdale’s Lexington Avenue flagship before the store opened. This breakfast was hosted by DKNY and Lauren Bush Lauren of FEED, whose mission is to create good products that help FEED the world, literally. I’ve been well aware of FEED bags for quite some time, noting different versions on the hands of celebrities and passersby alike. With a multitude of versions, seeing the newest FEED bag and the idea behind it is always exciting.

This time famed brand DKNY partnered with FEED to create the DKNY x FEED Survival Collection, which consists of three different items including a diaper bag, survival tote, and rain boots.
